Today, on my way back home, I stopped before a scene that stirred my thoughts and ignited a profound question in my heart: two orange trees, heavy with ripe fruit, their branches bending with generosity… and right beneath them stood the neighborhood’s garbage containers.
The trees give without asking, offering their abundance freely to anyone passing by. Yet only a few notice them, and even fewer reach out to pick a fruit. Why? Because the human mind often ties the beauty of giving to the ugliness of its surroundings. It judges value by what surrounds it, not by what it truly contains.
And so I began to wonder: How many “fruitful trees” exist around us, yet the mental and emotional “trash bins” placed beside them prevent others from seeing their worth?
Layers of the Scene — and Life’s Metaphors
1. The Psychological Space
Many creators are placed in “psychological environments” unworthy of their brilliance: A gifted poet in a circle that mocks emotion. An innovator in a community that fears change. A talented writer among people who do not read.
The mental space surrounding a creator can dim the light of their fruit, even if it hangs right in the open.
2. Symbolic Trash Bins
- Destructive criticism thrown carelessly, like garbage at the feet of a creator.
- Envy disguised as “well-intentioned advice.”
- Indifference — a massive container that spoils every attempt to give.
- Shallow comparisons: “Oranges? We have imported apples that are better!”
The Paradox of Availability and Appreciation
The fruit here is free and abundant, yet few value what comes without a price. In a world that glorifies complexity and cost, simple generosity is often dismissed as “ordinary.”
Think of your own talent — the one you offer effortlessly. Perhaps others fail to appreciate it simply because you do not demand anything in return.
A Message to the “Fruitful Trees” Among Us
To every creator, giver, producer, and generous soul:
- Your fruit may be close to the trash, but do not let it spoil. The negativity around you does not diminish the value of your creativity.
- Choose your psychological space, even if you cannot choose your physical one. You are responsible for the mental environment you allow yourself to live in.
- Do not turn yourself into a “trash bin.” When you fail to appreciate the gifts of others, you become the garbage container in their creative landscape.
- Look for fruitful trees in unexpected places. Give a chance to the hidden generosity buried beneath the daily clutter.
A Call for Reflection
- When was the last time you picked a “fruit of creativity” from a neglected tree along your path?
- When did you last pause to appreciate a humble talent around you?
- And when did you stop being a “trash bin” that absorbs others’ discouragement?
Today, I returned home thinking about how many fruits I missed simply because I was distracted by the smell of the trash beneath them.
The responsibility of nurturing creativity lies with society before the creator. The trash we pile around talented individuals reflects our culture — not their worth.
Let us clean our inner containers first… Perhaps then we will finally see the fruitful trees within ourselves and in others with greater clarity.
